The Department

The department is concerned with teaching of curricula including medical terminology, pharmacology, clinical pharmacology, toxicology and clinical toxicology as well as supervising other related curricula such as anatomy and histology, physiology, computer studies and biostatistics and zoology.

The department ensures that the study of these courses is well established for undergraduate students; thus the study of a course in physiology provides ample scientific background upon which further knowledge is based in the following courses. This course helps in comprehension of the functional abnormalities leading to disease conditions and thus the therapeutic effects of drugs can be understood together with it’s doses, side effects and interactions with other drugs in a following course such as pharmacology.

Clinical pharmacology is another course that is concerned with drug therapeutic applications and trains students in choosing the optimum therapeutic option.

Toxicology is concerned with drug harmful effects, how toxicity by these drugs occurs and prophylactic measures while clinical toxicology studies toxicity cases and how to treat them.

A number of diverse courses are also professionally delivered to postgraduate students together with excellent research facilities.

 The department aims to:

  • Provide high quality undergraduate teaching in both pharmacology and toxicology.

  •  Provide a supportive and expert environment for students pursuing postgraduate qualifications.

  • Continue it’s well-planned, high profile research with a special emphasis on Environmental Toxicology, Neuropsychopharmacology, and Cancer Chemotherapy.
